An evening walk on the High Line
Hi everyone, how have you been?
I've taken 2 summer courses at the ICP this summer - Studio Lighting for Digital SLRs & Photoshop for Lightroom Users - and both of them were just so amazing!!! I would recommend especially the latter one if you want to learn how to make your images stronger by using layers and masks.
And I visited the High Line 2 days ago and uploaded some pictures on my Flickr. I would greatly appreciate your comments. Thank you!
I hope you all have a wonderful summer... ;)

Yuki this picture is amazing. Seeing this makes me realize that I need to take more classes and learn how to "improve" my photos. I signed up for Digi 3 and was debating also taking Photoshop for Lightroom Users. Did you know how to use photoshop before taking that class? I do not at all so wasn't sure if it would be better to take Photoshop I instead. Only problem is it is during my work hours. I'd love to hear more feedback from you.
ReplyDeleteHi Daniela, thank you for your comment!
ReplyDeleteAnswering your questions, I only knew a bit of the basics about Photoshop before taking "Photoshop for Lightroom Users" but nothing at all about using masks or further retouching. But our wonderful teacher, Ms. Kathleen Anderson, taught us so many things from the REALLY basics to more intermediate techniques. She was very open to any fundamental questions and experiments, and she gave us tons of detailed handouts every day, which were very useful to review after class because we learned so much each day. And the 6 highly motivated students (including me!) encouraged each other to ask ANY questions as well. So I don't think you need to worry about it! :)
Actually, I didn't use Photoshop on this particular picture that I've put on this class blog - I only adjusted the contrast with Lightroom.
I hope I answered your questions well...
Yuki, among the series you posted on Flickr, this one is the best I think. But being partial to lines, lights and shadows, I really like the two "lingering heat" ones with the fence. I can easily envision them in b/W and makes me think of Japanese/Chinese ink paintings. Did you still only use your 50mm fixed lens for these photos?
ReplyDeleteHi Lei, thank you so much for your comment! I'm flattered :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that my photos of the vines and fences reminded you of Asian ink painting!! I'll definitely try black and white versions of them later. Thank you for your inspiration.
Yes, I usually go out with my 50mm fixed lens (Canon EF50mm f/1.8 II) and I love it! All of the photos from the High Line were taken by this lens :)
They are all beautiful but if I had to choose one from the "highline" (and that would be tough) it would be the orange flowers. And I also like "the Girl from Downtown, LA"
ReplyDeleteHello Amanda, thank you so for your kind words!
ReplyDeleteWhen I took that picture of the black cat, it reminded me of your project and realized how difficult it was to capture the characters of animals naturally. Her name is "Snowy" by the way :)
Beautiful
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, Wesley. You're the best photography teacher I've ever had and the notebook full of notes that I took in your class is my treasure. I miss your class :(
ReplyDeleteHello Yuki, great job (what a surprise !)

Nicoooo! Thank you so much for your kind feedback. The summer evening gives me rich colors and tones. I'm starting the Full-Time Program at the ICP in 2 days!! I hope I'll have great teachers and classmates like I did in our Photography 2: Digital class. Please share your pictures here with us, Nico :)
